On Monday, the Clarksville Cubs announced the signing of outfielder Jacque Jones to a 3 year, $54 dollar contract, the league average. “It’s great to have Jacque on board and we know he will bring enthusiasm and a good all-around game to our team”, Owner Jason Hoover stated.
Jones hit .285 and 27 homeruns last year with an .833 OBS and was successful on 90% of his stolen base attempts in his first year with the other Cubs. Jones joins an outfield with Garret Anderson, who was singed last week.
The Cubs are near the back of the pack in players signed so far this year with 4 through the first 3 days. Only the Peffercorns and Outlaws have signed fewer players, while the Cardinals have also signed 4.

As if the I-40 corridor rivalries needed more juice, the Atkins Alley Cats have pulled rug out from the Cubs feet and have stolen Mark Buehrle after it was believed and announced that Buehrle had signed with the Cubs.
“We have submitted a formal request to the commish to look into this situation”, said owner Jason Hoover. “We believe the Alley Cats were getting worried about the pitching strength we were building here inClarksville and contacted Mr. Buehrle’s agent late and got a deal done after the deadline.”
This leaves the Cubs with 3 players signed on Day 2 of the free agency period instead of the reported 4.
“It was obviously all about the money and we hold no ill regards toward Mark, however, the agent and the Alley Cats better straighten up”, Hoover demanded.

On the 2nd available signing day, the Clarksville Cubs sign more players than any other team and are pleased to announce the initial members of the Cubs. In today’s signing, the Cubs have added 3 front-line pitchers and a very serviceable outfielder. The signings announced were:
Mark Buehrle – 4 years for $100, Jose Contreras – 3 years for $75, Mike Mussina – 2 years for $22 and Garret Anderson – 2 years for $6.
“I am very pleased with today’s additions”, Cubs pitching coach Ferguson Jenkins stated on Thursday. “We are starting off with a great group of guys who will be with the team for some time”. The Cubs did not sign any of their initial players for less than 2 years.
“We want them to know we are as interested in them as much as they are interested in us”, said owner and GM Jason Hoover. “Once a Cub, always a Cub. We want our players to feel security in their signing with us.”

Well, the Clarksville Cubs got off to a slow start, being only 1 of 2 teams who did not sign a free-agent on the opening day. Clarksville had only submitted bids on 5 of the selected players and were very close to signing 2 or 3 of them.
“We want players who are 100% dedicated to the Cubs and there are still plenty of players remaining who we feel will build our team into winners in 2007″, owner and GM Jason Hoover said on Monday.
“I’d like to start seeing some of those players in uniform”, smirked coach Ron Santo.

I haven’t blogged since the inception of my site. I have been extremly busy with school, work, traveling, Razorback games, and of course poker.
I have placed my first bids and can’t wait to see if I’m in the “ballpark” tomorrow.
Good luck to all the other owners and I can’t wait to get to know some of you over the next few months.
